Jake Awender

PTDPTSCSCSCS

Jake earned his doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from Northern Illinois University’s Physical Therapy program.

He subsequently completed an extra year of focused study and application of Sports PT during his residency at the Institute for Athletic Medicine in Minneapolis, MN. Upon graduating from Residency, he earned his board-certification as a Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS). He also acquired his certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Jake is proud to work as the Longshots Baseball team Physical Therapist since 2017, where he provides PT evaluation and treatment in addition to developing and teaching their strength and conditioning program for young or beginner-level athletes.

Clinically, he utilizes a combination of tissue-specific Manual Therapy and exercise to treat a wide spectrum of injuries and patients, but is particularly eager to treat injuries of the extremities in post-operative and non-operative situations. He believes there is too often a large gap left between the completion of Physical Therapy and returning to sports or previous activity levels – whether that is throwing a fastball or picking up your grandchildren without pain. His most gratifying days at work include navigating this transition alongside his patients, regardless of the activities or sports they enjoy.
